Gregor doesn’t see himself as a warrior, but if he wants to try and find his dad, he has to accept that he is the one the prophecy spoke of. When Gregor arrives, he finds out that these creatures and people believe that he is part of the foretold prophecy where an Overlander saves their people from war and “brings back the light.” The Underland exists with lots of creatures, such as giant cockroaches (crawlers), bats (flyers), spiders (spinners), and rats. Gregor finds out that his father has been in the Underland, so he really wants to find him. There is a lot of speculation whether something happened to him or if he left of his own accord. Let’s back up… Gregor and Boots’ father has been missing for over two years. Boots and Gregor are considered Overlanders since they come from the Overland. Gregor is an eleven year-old boy who falls into a hole in his laundry room with his two year-old sister, “Boots.” They fall into this whole other world called the Underland. My aunt had told me in the past that these books were good, but I had never picked up the series until now. I’ve seen it compared to Harry Potter in that the books are about younger children (starting at age eleven), but they are interesting for adults as well. Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins is marketed as more of a children’s story.
It didn’t go exactly as planned, but it did work. I figured if I could get a good start on it, then it would help me reach my goal. In all honesty, I decided to pick up this book in the mad rush to finish my Goodreads challenge (I did it!!) because the audio book was much shorter than the others I have.
